process to be successful. The press-in process can also require specialized tooling or machines. When compared to conventional solder, however, significant advantages to press-fit technology remain. Press-fit contacting can withstand the high heat buildup present in harsh environment applications, including internal combustion automotive engines as well as EV inverters and battery systems. Press-fit technology outperforms comparable soldered connections with its higher temperature tolerances. A well-designed press- fit connection may also compensate for any temporary fluctuations in size due to thermal expansion, ensuring that the connection remains intact even if heat exposure occurs. Press-fit is an excellent solution where shock and road vibration are a concern. A press-fit connection can withstand acceleration loads caused by a shock of up to 200 G. For comparison, after re-entering the Earth's atmosphere, a space capsule is subjected to a G-force of approximately 7 G. Blade terminals Beyond the capabilities of press-fit contacts alone, blade terminals can meet the need for higher current connections. While press-fit connections are perfect for applications including sensors, control units, and safety features, blade terminals are a solution for the high power distribution aspects of distribution applications such as battery modules, fuses, relays, chargers, and inverters.
Customized contacts, including power blade, with press- fit examples. ept can produce blade terminals up to 9.5mm width and 1.25mm thick for high-power applications. Blade terminal connector contacts are flat, rectangular metal tabs designed to slide into corresponding receptacles or sockets. Their robust, simple, and compact form makes them ideal for environments where performance and durability are critical, with the added benefit of a relatively simple mating process. They are excellent for power-dense applications such as industrial or electric vehicle systems where current demands easily exceed what a standard pin contact’s
